Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, LOveship, Marriage by Alice Munro

Although the continuous changing of characters, stories and times may be less appealing and confusing to others, I loved Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Mariage by Alice Munro. Each chapter consists of a completely new story, a new main character, a women, and is taken place in a new time period then the previous. All of the stories have similar stories though, all about life, the dificulties like death and illness, mariage problems and states of sheer confusion. The fact that every chapter has new characters, new issues and problems than the last, and flops between present and past within its own story makes the book more complicated, but enjoyable. While reading i could relax and get into the book, but also had to think, and keep my mind going in order to keep up the newest women, the newest affair, death or illness.

  2. ALthough very sad, I found Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage very enjoyable. I was able to get into the book and connect with the different feeling of each character, even if i have not gone through similar situations. As well as that, I feel I could connect even more with the stories because in each seperate stories i would think of the similarities in each of their lives, opening more connections to my own life. I recomend rading this book, although it may appeal more to women, it may also open new insight to men as well.

  4. Molly, this is one of my favorite books of all time. I love Munro's prose and I'm so glad you read (and liked) the book. Another of her collections of stories I really like is Runaway, if you're interested.
